CRES CONVENTION

CRES Convention Overview

What is CRES Convention:

The Cairo Renewable Energy Summit (CRES) is a highly anticipated event that brings together experts, policymakers, and stakeholders in the renewable energy sector. It serves as a platform for discussing and promoting renewable energy technologies and solutions to combat climate change and achieve sustainable development goals. The convention section of the Cairo Renewable Energy Summit is an integral part of the event, running parallel to other activities.

CRES convention aims to cover a wide range of topics related to renewable energy. It is expected to provide a platform for knowledge sharing, best practices, and lessons learned on renewable energy in MENA, Africa, globe south countries and worldwide. The convention will facilitate dialogue and collaboration among policy makers, industry players, financiers, researchers, civil society, and youth. CRES Convention consists of eight themes that cover various aspects of renewable energy, such as policies, urbanism, economy, innovation, entrepreneurship, social benefits, and transport as follows:

CRES Convention Themes:

Theme 1: RE Universal Policies & Programs

Under this theme, experts will discuss critical issues such as prioritizing resources in the energy sector and the fair share of renewables out of the public investment, the role of government incentives, subsidies, and policies in promoting renewable energy sector and in creating a favourable investment climate, the obstacles and challenges of the green transition process, the role of governmental procurement in accelerating the RE industry, and the fair taxation/incentive factor for Distributed Energy Resources (DERs). The theme will also discuss the role of intergovernmental, regional and international organizations and world non-governmental alliances and organizations in acceleration/ deceleration/ variegating the pace of the global green transition.

Theme 2: Green Urbanism and Smart Cities

This theme focuses on the integration of renewable energy sources into existing energy grids and the required infrastructure for new energy grid in order to shift to a smart city model. Experts will discuss technical aspects such as grid compatibility, storage solutions, and smart grid systems that enable efficient and reliable integration of renewable energy sources. They will also explore socio-economic frameworks that support renewable energy integration and profitability, as well as best practices and case studies from around the world.

Theme 3: Green Economy, Opportunities and Limitations

This theme delves into the economic aspects of renewable energy, including the cost-effectiveness and financial viability of renewable energy projects. Experts will present economic models, investment strategies, and financing options for renewable energy projects. They will also explore the world opportunity map of renewable energy and will explain how developing countries can benefit from economies of scale in renewable energy sector and how they can maximize their benefits from green economic tools such as VCUs and Green Bonds.

Theme 4: Clusters and Supply-Chains of RE

CRES Convention will explore ways to enhance collaboration and cooperation among different stakeholders in the renewable energy sector. This theme in particular is concentrating more on the core industry of renewable energy and its components. Experts will focus on the importance of forming strategic clusters and efficient supply chains to maximize the benefits of renewable energy. In addition, they will investigate the best models for supply chains in renewable energy production, distribution and management and they will highlight the best practices in regional integration and will explain how to create successful renewable energy clusters.

Theme 5: Innovation & Technology in RE

Since technological advancements and innovation play a crucial role in accelerating the deployment and adoption of renewable energy solutions, CRES convention aims to shed light on the most recent cutting-edge technologies and innovations that have real potential impact the future of the renewable energy industry. Experts will also present case studies and success stories highlighting the effectiveness and potential of these technologies in meeting the growing demand for clean energy.

Theme 6: Renewable Energy Entrepreneurship

This theme showcases the renewable energy industry from an entrepreneurial perspective and discusses the opportunities and challenges of entrepreneurs in this sector. Experts will elaborate on best business models and most profitable layers in the renewable energy cluster. They will present some creative projects and will explain how to raise fund in green energy business. It will also touch upon the social role of entrepreneurs towards a more sustainable world.

Theme 7: Social aspects of Renewable Energy

This theme investigates the socio-economic impacts of the renewable energy transition initiatives and interventions. It highlights the importance of considering public opinion and acceptance in the development of renewable energy projects. Experts will share insights on effective public engagement strategies, community involvement, and ways to address concerns and misconceptions related to renewable energy. Some topics under discussion include the role of SMEs in this huge industry, the impact of environmental activism and social mobilization on the governmental energy policies and practices, and education as major driver of public environmental capacity building process.

Theme 8: Green Transition in Transport

Being one of the most important sectors for achieving the global goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and limiting the rise of global temperature, transport will be dedicated a separate theme within CRES Convention. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), transport accounts for more than one quarter of global energy-related CO2 emissions and is the only sector where emissions are still growing. Therefore, decarbonizing transport is essential for the net-zero transition and sustainable development. The experts will discuss the challenges that face this sector such as the lack of policy support and initiatives, the high upfront costs and market barriers, the technological and environmental challenges. The discussions will cover areas of interest including public transport, electric vehicles, biofuels and hydrogen cells among other interesting topics.
